What to do while you wait

• Move valuables and electrical items away from the leak and put down a bucket to catch the water.
• If water is near light fittings or sockets, switch the electricity off at the mains.
• Don’t go onto the roof or into the loft if it isn’t safe.
• Take photos of the damage — they’re useful for an insurance claim.
